Yes, the company that makes your vacuum and your Airwrap just launched a $500 toothbrush.
It’s called the Dyson CameraJet, and as a dentist, there are actually a few things about this that I find really interesting.
First, there’s a 100,000-pixel camera built into the toothbrush that uses AI to help identify the spaces between your teeth.
And when it detects one of those spaces, it delivers a targeted jet of mouthrinse right between the teeth.
That part I really like.
Using targeted fluid pressure can be really helpful for cleaning those hard-to-reach areas between the teeth and around the gumline, areas that patients often miss with brushing alone.
And Dyson didn’t just make the jet stronger. They designed it as a broader, cone-shaped spray at a lower pressure to help remove plaque while being gentle on the gums and enamel.
The camera also lets you actually see inside your mouth, and the app can show you where you’ve brushed, where you’ve missed, and give you feedback on your technique.
Now, Dyson is making some pretty impressive claims about plaque removal, and as a dentist, I’d still like to see more independent, long-term clinical research.
And then there’s the price…
$499.
Is everyone going to spend $500 on a toothbrush? Probably not.
But if Dyson just made people genuinely excited about cleaning their teeth and paying attention to the spaces between them…
I’m here for it.
